Frequently Asked Questions

Reiki Master Ana Davis answers your Reiki FAQs.

  • Reiki is a type of energy healing that originated in Japan over 200 years ago. As humans, we’re composed of kinetic energy (motions and vibrations). Our energy is always changing based on what’s going on around and inside us. Sometimes energy becomes blocked in the body because of our thoughts and feelings, stress, health challenges, or the pressures of daily life.  A Reiki Master places hands on (or above) the body’s energy centers to help that energy become more balanced and flow more freely. This allows us to get back in sync with ourselves –  physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually.

  • A Reiki session at The Light House: A Reiki Studio is like coming home to yourself. From the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave, this is a time for you to connect, relax, heal, and just be.

    What to expect:

    • After you arrive and settle in, we connect and chat. I want to get to know you, tell you about myself, and find out what’s bringing you in.

    • To begin, you will lie down (in the clothes you wear to the session) on a massage table and listen to the soft music playing in the background.

    • During the Reiki session, I will gently place my hands on (or above) the body’s key energy centers/meridians. This is a gentle, hands-on healing practice that involves light touch primarily around the outer edges of the body and within the energy field surrounding it.

    • For many, a Reiki session will calm the nervous system leaving you feeling lighter, clearer, more at peace – and often – more connected with self.

    • After the session, we will reconnect, reflect, and discuss what you experienced and I can answer any questions you have.

I find that this way of running sessions gives you opportunities to settle in, experience the Reiki fully, and process it with guidance afterward.

  • Some people have deeply moving experiences on my table. Others walk away feeling more relaxed than they have in ages. Both are valid! That's the wonderful thing about Reiki. There is no right or wrong way to experience it. Reiki sessions are unique to each person. You may experience sensations such as warmth, coolness, tingling – or nothing at all. You may see colors or images. Some people experience an energetic release through tears. Some people walk away from their session feeling like they’ve had a really good rest. All these responses are normal.

  • Every Reiki session is as unique as the person receiving it. Some people leave feeling deeply rested, others feel lighter, clearer, or more connected to themselves. Common benefits clients notice include:

    • Releasing stress and easing physical tension or pain

    • Sleeping more soundly

    • Boosting energy and emotional resilience

    • Supporting overall health and wellbeing

    • Creating space for emotional release and spiritual growth

    • Reconnecting you with yourself in a grounded, meaningful way

Reiki meets you where you are, offering what your body, mind, and spirit need most in the moment.

  • Reiki is one form of energy healing, and like all energy work, it supports your body’s natural ability to restore balance. During a session, I help your energy flow more freely so you can feel more like yourself.

    Reiki provides:

    • A greater sense of overall wellbeing with reduced tension and stress

    • Relief from physical pain or emotional discomfort

    • Improved focus and vitality

    • Emotional clarity and release

    • Space for spiritual growth

Reiki supports your body, mind, and spirit holistically to

    • Increase mental clarity and emotional resilience

    • Improve sleep

    • Prevent burnout

  • There are lots of great studies on the benefits of Reiki. You can find many on PubMed.

  • Nope! Reiki healing is a wonderful complement to medical care, therapy, and other healing modalities rather than replacing them. The calmer your body is, the better you can heal. One of my favorite things about Reiki is that it works so well in tandem with Western medicine. I actually started practicing Reiki in a hospital oncology unit. Reiki puts you in the position to get the most out of your doctor’s care because a relaxed body and mind helps the body’s natural healing ability.

  • Reiki is not massage. Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice where the practitioner places their hands lightly on (or just above) the body to support your natural flow of energy. The goal is to help your energy flow more freely and be more balanced in order to improve your emotional and physical wellness.

Massage, on the other hand, works directly with the body’s muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It’s hands-on physical manipulation designed to ease pain, release tension, and improve circulation.

Both Reiki and massage can leave you feeling calmer and more at ease, but they approach healing from different directions. Many people find the two wellness therapies complement each other beautifully.

  • I try to make Reiki a welcoming experience for as many people as possible. You don’t need to have any particular abilities or prior knowledge. My studio is located on the second floor of a building without an elevator and is accessible by a flight of stairs. If there’s something you’d like me to know ahead of your session to make your experience more accessible, please let me know.

  • At The Light House: A Reiki Studio, you come as you are! You don’t need to do anything special to prepare. Just wear comfortable clothes and bring an open heart and mind.

  • Some people make energy healing part of their regular self-care routine, while others turn to it when life feels especially heavy or out of balance. However you approach it, Reiki meets you where you are and offers what you need most in the moment. There’s no “right” schedule for Reiki. It’s about what feels supportive for you. Some people come once a month to reset and recharge, while others enjoy weekly sessions as part of their self-care routine. One of the beautiful things about Reiki is that it helps you tune in to your own needs, so you’ll know when it’s time to come back to the table.
